//

The US Open run of Australia's Jordan Thompson has come to an end with a five-set loss to Daniel Galán.

The Colombian, who took out fourth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in the opening round, prevailed 6-3, 2-6, 3-6, 6-4. 6-3 in 3h 51m.

The pair came together to exchange words at the net early in the fourth set, with Thompson apparently taking issue with the length of time Galán was taking to serve.

The two players walked from the baseline to the net, gesticulating and having what appeared to be a heated discussion as the pro-Galán crowd turned rowdy.

It wasn't the first time in the match the pair had exchanged words, with another clash taking place at a change of ends.

"There's a little bit of agro, a bit of tension between the boys," Todd Woodbridge said on Nine's commentary.

"I think it's got to do with the time that Galán is taking.

"Jordan's never one to back down when he's out on court, but there's tension and stress."
