Why Petracca isn't fazed by Cats' tagging threat

//

Melbourne midfielder Christian Petracca is ready to shake off any unwanted attention from Geelong players ahead of their blockbuster clash at the MCG on Saturday night.

Petracca is "expecting" to be tagged through the middle, but is ready for the challenge as they look to knock the Cats off the top of the table.

Geelong will be putting extra effort into their midfield, considering they were smashed around the ball by Carlton in round seven, despite taking a 13-point win.

Petracca knows the spotlight will land on him.

"It's something I'm expecting," Petracca said on Monday.

Petracca says he isn't phased with the possibility of being tagged.

"It's something I will plan for and do some research, but I also have to fight for it.

"I can't just (accept) I'm going to get tagged, I also need to do a better job of being aggressive and still playing my game, back myself in."

But if he does get that dreaded tag on Saturday night, he knows he can trust his fellow midfielders to step up, namely Clayton Oliver.

"For me, it's about being as selfless as possible, If they're (opposition) going to me, it allows other players to go through the midfield and get the ball," he said.

But it's not just Petracca who will feel the heat from the Cats.

Demons defenders Jake Lever and Steven May will be tasked with stopping the Cats' twin towers up forward, Jeremy Cameron and Tom Hawkins.

Cameron kicked five in Geelong's win over Carlton, while Hawkins has been utilised in a new role in order to support the small Cats forwards.

"They're both amazing players. Jeremy Cameron kicked five on the weekend and Hawk has been incredible his whole career," Petracca said.

"It's going to be an exciting battle, which I'll love to see from the midfield."

The Cats sit top of the table, while the Demons are closely behind in fourth.
