Geelong champion Joel Selwood opened the club's new stand, named in his honour, in style as his former side commemorated the special night with a gusty victory over St Kilda.
The Cats held off the fast finishing Saints to record an eight-point victory.
It wasn't a pretty win by any means, but it was an emotional night for the city of Geelong and the faithful fans.

Selwood was presented to the crowd, as he kicked a ceremonial goal to open the stand named after him.
"Thanks for a special night," Selwood said on Instagram.
"Not in my wildest dreams did I think this would happen."
Selwood is the Geelong games record holder with 355 games and is the Cats' only four-time premiership player.
Geelong's youngsters took on their new roles in front of their home crowd, with Tanner Bruhn, Jhye Clark, Max Holmes and Ollie Dempsey stepping up to the plate.
Cats coach Chris Scott lauded 19-year-old Clark's ferocity around the football.
"Jhye Clark was really good," Scott said post match.
"He's played one game but only played 20 minutes in that game before he got hurt, so this was really his first full game of AFL football.
"I just thought he looked like he belonged out there."
Meantime, Matthew Lloyd also heaped praise on forward Dempsey, who booted three goals in just his eighth game at senior level.
"Last night, I thought he was the most influential player on the ground when they set up the win," Lloyd said on Nine's Sunday Footy Show.
"He's got class, he's confident in himself, he knows where the goals are, he sets them up and he creates them."
Geelong now head to South Australia to take on Adelaide on Friday night.
