Rugby league player and recent Raiders recruit Troy Dargan has died in a motorbike crash, says his management.

The 26-year-old was on holiday with family in the Cook Islands when the accident occurred on Christmas eve.

"On behalf of the Dargan family, it is with a heavy heart that we share the news of TJ's tragic passing overnight," the Aria Management Group confirmed in a Facebook post.

"He and his family were holidaying in the Cook Islands where TJ was involved in a motorcycle accident.

"TJ is a beloved son to Troy and Wendy, loving brother to Tamalee and Korokai, and friend to many many others.

"TJ will he greatly missed and our thoughts and prayers are with his family."

Dargan played two Test matches for the Cook Islands, and also had Indigenous Australian heritage.

While he spent much of his rugby league career in lower grade competitions, Dargan played two NRL games for the Rabbitohs in 2020.

He recently signed a development deal with Canberra and was due to start a two-year stint with the Raiders.

"One of the greats. Will miss you brother," Canterbury captain Reed Mahoney posted on Instagram.

New Raiders teammate James Schiller said, "RIP my brother. Love you mate".
