De Goey's perfect response to Dee's 'better' claim

//

Collingwood superstar Jordan De Goey has issued a threat of sorts to Melbourne defender Steven May after bizarre comments made by the latter.

May took the stage at the Demons' presentation night on Friday and used the moment to claim they were "a better team" than the 2023 premiers.

Melbourne finished fourth on the AFL ladder but was bundled out of the finals in straight sets, thanks to close losses to the Magpies and then Carlton.

The Magpies went on to beat Brisbane in a grand final thriller to clinch the flag.

"You know, we lose to Collingwood, and they go on to win the flag, and it f---ing hurts," May said.

May launches stunning jab at Pies

"Because we're a better team than them, we should have smoked them.

"And to sit there on grand final day and watch them hoist the cup, and get the medals, I'm sitting there going 'geez, our team's so much better than these guys'. We should've been out there, but we weren't."

De Goey is the first Collingwood player to give a public interview since May's bizarre speech.

He spoke to Nine's Today on Tuesday morning and was asked about the May claim.

"I just think the proof's in the pudding," De Goey said.

"I guess I'm the one with the medal around my neck at the moment, so that's all I can really say.

"It's going to be interesting next year after (him) saying that, isn't it."

De Goey spends time during games in the Collingwood forward line, while May is one of Melbourne's key defenders, meaning a direct clash between the pair is likely in 2024.
