A freak injury during post-season celebratory drinks has led to shoulder surgery for Callum Mills, with the Sydney Swans co-captain now in doubt for the start of the next AFL season.
The Swans confirmed the star midfielder, who's played 155 games for Sydney, had surgery last week.
He reportedly suffered the injury while wrestling with a teammate during Mad Monday celebrations.

"Losing players to injury in the off-season is always disappointing," Swans football boss Charlie Gardiner said in a statement.
"Callum is our captain and an important member of the squad. We are extremely disappointed this injury has occurred.
"Callum is equally disappointed, as you can imagine, but he is recovering well and will get to work on his rehabilitation immediately."
The Swans have not put a timeline on Mills' injury but his rehabilitation will undoubtedly take place throughout the pre-season, if not the start of the 2024 season.
It's not the first time Mills has succumbed to injury in unusual circumstances.
He missed most of the 2018 season when he broke his foot while throwing an American football with teammates on the way back from a cafe.
