Reason for Titans 'downfall' that cost coach his job

//

The Titans are an enigma - a team with four of the best strike players in the game in Tino Fa'asuamaleaui, David Fifita, AJ Brimson and Jayden Campbell and on their day, they can push any team in the league.

But the Titans' downfall in 2023 was failing to go the distance over 80 minutes - four times during the season they charged to double-digit leads… and got run down.

The inability to close out games cost ex-coach Justin Holbrook his job mid-season when the Titans were on the cusp of the top eight - and things went downhill from there.

Big Tino came of age as captain while Fifita had his moments but tended to drift in and out of games.

The Titans' biggest problem was the lack of a class number seven to go alongside Kieran Foran in the halves.

Games are won and lost by class halfbacks and the Titans simply didn't have a player capable of doing the job.

Best player: Tino Fa'asuamaleaui was a handful every week, playing his heart out and trying to inspire his fellow forwards.

Biggest disappointment: Tanah Boyd was handed the halfback job when Toby Sexton left the club, and struggled with the responsibility. At this stage of his career, he's not quite a starting NRL playmaker.

Key signing: Keenan Palasia has shown glimpses of class for the Broncos this season and could be a handy pick-up. But the Titans need more fresh blood to be a finals contender.

2024 gains: Keenan Palasia (Broncos).

2024 losses: Kruise Leeming (Wigan Warriors).
