Boomers star scores first NBA contract

//

The Boomers' early exit from the FIBA World Cup did not hamper Duop Reath's future prospects, with the Aussie reportedly scoring an NBA deal.

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the 27-year-old signed a one-year contract with the Portland Trail Blazers after an impressive World Cup performance.

The South Sudan-born, Perth-raised Reath played with Portland's Summer League team before participating in the Boomers' World Cup campaign.

He averaged 13.0 points and 7.4 rebounds in five games for the Trail Blazers and then amassed 43 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 assists in limited court time with the Australian team.

He had 16-points in the opening win over Georgia and registered two or more blocks in most of the games he played.

He'll join Aussie teammate Matisse Thybulle, who was traded to the Trail Blazers earlier this year.

Reath's signing will contribute to Portland's lack of depth at centre behind Jusuf Nurkic, with the Aussie also posing a threat from three-point range.

Reath went undrafted in 2018 and spent time honing his skills outside of the NBA, playing in Serbia and China.
