"Obviously a tough match. I knew I needed to play my best in order to win, and thank you guys so much." Asked about the key moments, Kenin replied, "Just play point by point. Don't get over anxious, super excited, so I just tried to stick to my plan and I'm super happy I finished before it got dark because I didn't feel like finishing tomorrow, to be honest." I just took this match as any other match. I'm just super proud of myself." The highlight of the match was when Gauff won a gritty point in which she fell to the ground, recovered, before firing a forehand to go up 3-0 in the second set. She closed out the second set, but ultimately fell in the third when Kenin got out to a 5-2 lead and sealed the deal after a little over two hours. Kenin wound up with 18 winners to 22 unforced errors while Gauff finished with 33 winners and 33 unforced errors, scoring 12 aces. For Gauff, it's the first time she has suffered a first round loss at Wimbledon. She made it to the fourth round on her debut in 2019 and did it again upon returning in 2021, but lost in the third round of 2022. It's the first time since the 2022 Australian Open that Gauff has suffered a first round defeat. Kenin will face Wang Xinyu in the second round on Wednesday.
