Fan favourite Ford to make surprise return

//

A fan favourite is set to return to the Gulf Western Oil Touring Car Masters grid when the series roars back into life at Sandown.

Keith Kassulke will bring his Ford Falcon XB GT out of the shed for the return of the touring car series on September 16-18 for the SpeedSeries.

The car made its first Touring Car Masters appearance in 2011 in the hands of icon Glenn Seton, who won the Australian Touring Car Championship in 1993 and 1997.

He took a famous win in the XB GT at Mount Panorama in 2011 on the day of the Bathurst 1000.

Kassulke bought the car ahead of the 2012 season. However, the car hasn't featured on the grid since 2015.

Papua New Guinea-based Kassulke said he's eager to treat the Melbourne fans at what could be one of his last drives at the circuit before it is eventually torn down.

"It's going to be great," said Kassulke.

"I'm looking forward to being at Sandown again and am aware that it may well be the last time I get to race there – but I hope not.

"It's a fantastic circuit and I'm sure the XB will be a popular addition to the category given they have been absent from the grid for some years.

"It was always fast at Sandown so we will see how it goes against the newly built TCM cars."

All four Gulf Western Oil Touring Car Masters races will be broadcast live and ad-free on Stan Sports as part of the SpeedSeries.

The Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series will headline proceedings supported by the final round of Turtle Wax Trans Am.

Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia Powered by AWS, Australian Production Cars, and Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia will also feature on the bumper line-up.
