Steven Johnson is set to make a surprise return to the Gulf Western Oil Touring Car Masters grid at the forthcoming Sandown SpeedSeries event.
The son of five-time Australian Touring Car Championship winner Dick Johnson will race a Ford Mustang as part of a 21-car field at Melbourne's iconic Sandown circuit on September 16-18.
Johnson contested the opening round of the series at Sydney Motorsport Park but opted to miss the subsequent two rounds to focus the team's funds on his son's Trans Am campaign.

Cameron Mason was in line to race the Russell Hancock-owned Ford Mustang at Sandown, but has opted to focus on spending time with his family.
It will mark the first time since 2019 that Johnson has raced a Ford Mustang 'Trans Am', similar to the car he won his three Touring Car Masters titles in.
Johnson isn't the only returnee with Adam Bressington to race a Chevrolet Camaro.

Bressington takes over the Whiteline Racing-run entry which had been driven by Michael Almond, who is recovering from a shoulder injury.
A pair of Ford XB Falcon hardtops will be driven by Keith Kassulke and Gary Finemore.
Sandown marks the fourth round of the Touring Car Masters season, which has largely been dominated by the Holden Torana pair driven by John Bowe and Ryan Hansford.
What's not yet know is whether Cameron Tiley will return with his Valiant Pacer.
The car took a massive hit at the most recent round in Townsville. It's expected a decision will be made as late as possible.
Touring Car Masters will take in four races across the weekend at Sandown, all of which will be broadcast live and ad-free on Stan Sport.
The opening race of the weekend will also be broadcast live on 9Gem.
The Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series will headline proceedings at the forthcoming SpeedSeries event.
The touring car series will be supported by Turtle Wax Trans Am, Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia Powered by AWS, Australian Production Cars, and Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia.
