Johns, Fittler clash over divisive NRL question

//

Rugby league greats Brad Fittler and Andrew Johns have butted heads over who they believe is the buy of the 2022 NRL season.

The pair had a back and forth on Wide World of Sports' Freddy and The Eighth after Johns deemed Brisbane halfback Adam Reynolds was "by a mile" the buy of the year.

Reynolds, who spent 231 games at South Sydney before joining the Broncos this year, has put his hand up for recruit of the year with Brisbane back in the top eight and firming for finals football after missing out the previous two seasons.

But in the eyes of Fittler, the current New South Wales coach, he's tipped his hat to Sharks playmaker Nicho Hynes, with Cronulla sitting one spot higher on the table in fourth, based on for-and-against.

Hynes leads the league in linebreak assists with 13, while Reynolds has more try assists, sitting second among all players with 11.

Johns: Adam Reynolds by a mile.

Fittler: Nicho.

Johns: Come on, mate.

Fittler: Who's on top at the moment between those two teams on the ladder?

Right now, Cronulla [is fourth], in front of Brisbane [who are fifth].

Johns: Brisbane hasn't made the top eight, in how long - four, five years?

Fittler: They've got access to the biggest nursey in Australia.

Johns: But they were hopeless, they got the wooden spoon two years ago. Reynolds.

Fittler: Nicho.
