James Maloney banned for positive drug test

Australian rugby league champion James Maloney has reportedly tested positive for a banned substance in France.

According to French publication L'Independant, the 35-year-old Aussie failed a routine drugs test following a game for his club Lezignan on March 19.

Maloney has been suspended from playing, according to the report.

The case is yet to be processed by France's anti-doping agency, and his B sample has not yet been tested.

Maloney was an NRL champion for a decade before heading to France to play for Catalans in the Super League three years ago.
