$2m sponsor set to walk as Bulldogs implode

//

FORMER Canterbury premiership-winning skipper Peter Tunks has appealed for a cease-fire in the brutal civil war that is engulfing the club.

The Bulldogs have been fighting boardroom battles for decades, with constant sniping between rival factions.

In the latest spat, forces are attempting to pressure Chair Lynne Anderson and prominent figures John Ballesty and Paul Dunn to stand down from their positions.

The in-fighting has become so severe that the club's major sponsor, the $800 million Laundy hotel group, is considering walking away from the club, taking it's $2 million grant with it.

2020 Team Reviews: A slow build for the Bulldogs

Tunks, a key figure on the field for the club in the 1980s, went on to manage three Super League clubs in England and is saddened by the demise of the once-great club.

"It really hurts me to see the mess the club is in and all the fighting in the place - it has gone on for far too long," Tunks told Wide World of Sports.

"The club has finished second last on the ladder this year and is clearly struggling on and off the field.

"There is a lack of experience of some of the people in key positions that makes it hard for the club to get out of the trouble that it is in.

"I like Paul Dunn and he is good at what he does and don't understand why they are targeting him.

"There are clearly some agendas there and for the club to succeed, they need to stop squabbling and all get on the same page."
