Rugby league greats Andrew Johns and Brad Fittler have blasted Storm forward Max King for a dangerous tackle during Melbourne's match with the Dragons on Sunday.
King was placed on report by referee Matt Cecchin early in the first half for a dangerous tackle that was deemed a hip-drop on Dragons forward Blake Lawrie.
Lawrie struggled to get up on his feet and required assistance from medical staff after King became the third man in on a tackle which would crush the lower leg of the Dragons forward as he landed awkwardly on the ground.
Earlier this week Parramatta's Junior Paulo was hit with a grade one dangerous contact charge for what was also deemed a hip-drop tackle that left Broncos star David Fifita with an ankle injury which ultimately required surgery.
Johns, who struggled to watch through the replays of the incident, said King's tackle on Lawrie was as bad as it gets.
"You can see his ankle under there, it gets buckled," " Johns told Nine.
"That was really dangerous.
"I find it hard to believe someone would do that deliberately because there's only one thing that can come from that, and that is a broken leg or a broken ankle.
"That's as dangerous as it gets on the field.
"Once again it's that third man in going low. That was ugly."
While Fittler said it looked as if King went into the tackle with "not with the right intentions".
"I've got to say on the tackle, that was ridiculous," Fittler added.
"He had plenty of time to do a lot of other things other than what he did Max King.
"I've got to say, everything he did, looked like it was not with the right intentions."
