Huge Blues blow as Tommy Turbo ruled out

//

The NSWRL has officially confirmed that Manly superstar Tom Trbojevic will not feature for the Blues in this year's State of Origin series.

Trbojevic was one of five players named by Brad Fittler in the extended squad on Sunday night and was scheduled to come into camp later this month.

However on Thursday, after battling through the season with hamstring and shoulder injuries, the Sea Eagles fullback made the decision to officially withdraw himself.

"We appreciate the effort by Tom and the Manly Sea Eagles to try to get him ready for Origin," said Fittler.

"It must have been a difficult but selfless decision for Tom to put the team first ahead of his desire to play in the series next month."

Despite Fittler's sentiments, reports that Trbojevic was considering withdrawing from the series initially caught the Blues coach by surprise when they surfaced last night.

"That's the first I've heard about it," he told 2GB's Wide World of Sports Radio.

"I've always said I'll be gauged by the (Manly) doctor Nathan Gibbs. I'll be speaking to Nathan Gibbs over the next few days to see how much truth there is in that.

Turbo says he'll be right for Origin

"I believe the Manly blokes are having a bit of a get together at the moment so they've got plenty of time."

Trbojevic returned in round 19 after spending three months on the sidelines with a hamstring injury, only to injure his shoulder early in the second half against the Titans.
