//

British tennis player Dan Evans got into a heated row with an opponent in the French Open men's doubles over "cheat" allegations.

Evans was partnered with Hubert Hurkacz in their first-round match against Matwe Middelkoop and Marcel Demoliner when in the third set emotions boiled over.

Middelkoop and Demoliner believed that the ball had hit Evans during a point and the former also didn't trust the Brit over a line call.

Evans denied the ball hit him and fumed at the accusation of a misleading line call after the Middelkoop highlighted the mark on the clay.

When they changed ends Middelkoop then complained about Evans celebrating the point and asked Hurkacz about the line call, which sparked Evans to storm over to him as his partner trying to stop him.

"Don't behave like a child, man," Middelkoop was heard telling Evans who had told the Dutchman to "sit yourself on the chair".

"No, you spoke to me," Evans replied.

"I did nothing to you. I asked you why you're screaming in my face, that's all I'm asking. Unbelievable."

The pair needed to be separated by chair umpire Arnaud Gabas on the court as they continued to exchange barbs and debated the line call earlier in the game.

"I'd say I'm pretty fair," Evans said after their 7-6 (7-2) 3-6 7-5 doubles victory.

"For me that there is as good as calling me a cheat, which is disgusting. And I won't let that go and that's why I told him when we went 5-2 up.

"Some of these guys seem to be happy to give it out to us but don't like it when it comes back their way and I've no issues with doing that. I was pretty angry on the court. I don't like that.

"There's one thing that us Brits are is too fair in my opinion. I would say if it hit me. I don't think it hit me.

"They won the point so I don't see what the big deal is. It's embarrassing chat from the pair of them. It's desperation in my opinion. I'm still seething."

Evans' Aussie mate Nick Kyrgios shared video of the clash on his social media and backed the Brit, tweeting: "F--king love Evans."

After their win at Roland Garros, Evans and Hurkacz will next face Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos in the second round.
