Rance officially pulls pin on comeback attempt

//

Star Richmond defender Alex Rance has officially pulled the pin on his comeback hopes for the 2019 season.

After rupturing his ACL in the opening match of the season in March, Rance had been working feverishly to make a miracle comeback for the Tigers' finals campaign.

However, Rance is understood to have told his teammates on Wednesday that his comeback will have to happen in next year's season opener.

The five-time All-Australian was a key pillar of Richmond's premiership-winning defence in 2017.

The news comes after the star defender expressed his optimism about playing a part in the Tigers' finals campaign.

"I am ever the optimist and potentially a little bit reckless," Rance told reporters.

"It probably goes with the way I play and all that kind of stuff.

"I'll be heavily pushing to play, but I have got to think about the club holistically.

"If it happens again, what will that do to not only myself, but the club and my mates? That is one thing that I will have to wrap my head around, but I will make that call next week."
