Former Sharks coach Flanagan attends trial match

//

Shane Flanagan was present to watch the Sharks begin a new era under coach John Morris in a NRL pre-season trial against Manly in Cronulla.

The former Cronulla coach resigned last month after he was deregistered by the NRL following an investigation over allegedly breaching the terms of his suspension.

The 53-year-old was said to have corresponded with the club over the recruitment and retention of players when he was banned in 2014 over the Sharks' peptides scandal.

He was deregistered in December, before resigning in January and being replaced by rookie coach Morris.

And in an ironic twist, replacement Morris handed Flanagan's son Kyle the Sharks No.6 jersey.

The 20-year-old was named alongside Chad Townsend in the halves, with his father watching on.

Manly included Dylan Walker in their final 21-man roster despite the 24-year-old being due to appear in court again on Tuesday after pleading not guilty to two counts of assault against his partner last December.
